Agricultural Information CenterAlternative FuelsBiodieselBiodiesel is the name of a clean burning alternative fuel, produced from domestic, renewable resources. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend. It can be used in compression-ignition (diesel) engines with little or no modifications. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics. Illinois Alternate Fuels Rebate ProgramThe Alternate Fuels Rebate Program provides rebates for businesses, local governments, organizations, and individuals in the State of Illinois who acquire an alternate fuel vehicle, convert an existing conventional vehicle to an alternate fuel vehicle, or purchase domestic renewable fuel to operate an alternate fuel vehicle. E-85E-85 is a blend of ethanol and gasoline containing 85% ethanol. Illinois Green Fleets has information, articles, locations to purchase the blend, and a list of cars that are capable of running on E-85. EthanolA new guide on Building an Ethanol Plant in Illinois (PDF), created jointly by the Illinois EPA and the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, is now available. The guide includes useful information on environmental permit requirements and best management practices, funding opportunities, and other considerations, including information on water and infrastructure access.
