Introduction

The Clean Fuel Fleet Program (CFFP) is a requirement of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 for certain areas of the country not meeting the federal air quality standards. In Illinois, the CFFP is required to be implemented in the Chicago area. For this program, the "Chicago area" includes Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will Counties, as well as Oswego Township in Kendall County and Aux Sable and Goose Lake Townships in Grundy County.

Current Status/What's New?

The CFFP was originally scheduled to begin in model year (MY) 1998 (September 1, 1997). The program has been delayed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency by one year with the anticipation that several more vehicles will be made available for the program in 1998. The CFFP will now begin in MY 1999 which starts on September 1, 1998. The Illinois EPA will be administering this program in the Chicago area.

Fleet registrations are now being accepted by the Illinois EPA. Fleets subject to the CFFP are to register with the Illinois EPA prior to September 1, 1998, the start-up date for the program.

Information

If you need further information or have questions on the CFFP, or would like a registration form, please contact Darwin Burkhart, CFFP Coordinator for the Illinois EPA, at (217) 524-4343. You may e-mail him at Darwin.Burhkart@illinois.gov.

In addition, the Chicago Area Clean Cities Coalition is assisting with the implementation of the CFFP. Chicago Clean Cities will be hosting CFFP workshops and seminars throughout the Chicago area during 1999. Get the latest information on their website at www.chicagocleancities.org.Exit
