Illinois Cool Cities

During the summer of 2007, Governor Blagojevich signed the Illinois Cool Cities Act into law. Under the Act, cities that endorse the U.S. Conference of Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and implement a plan to meet the reduction goals, will be recognized as “Illinois Cool Cities.” Other local units of government may earn recognition as well, e.g., “Illinois Cool Counties.”

If you have any questions regarding the Illinois Cool Cities program, please contact:

For more information about developing and implementing local greenhouse gas reduction plans, see the Illinois Cool Cities Resource List.
