Illinois EPA introduces updated Test Notice

The testing notice a motorist receives in the mail will look and function
differently.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) has made four major revisions
to the Test Notice:
- Changed the size to 8½” x 11”
- Simplified the wording and information in the notice
- Eliminated the return postcard
- Removed the maps from the back of the notice
These changes are in response to motorists' suggestions and will provide
a cost savings to the IEPA.
The color will remain yellow, and the notice will be folded in half. Some
great new features are:
- The vehicle model year, make, Vehicle Identification Number and
the date the vehicle selected is due for a test can be viewed on
the front without unfolding the notice.
- The Vehicle Emissions Testing Program enforcement requirements
and answers what to do if your vehicle fails or is rejected are
also easily found without unfolding the notice.
- Since the Vehicle Emissions Testing Program is now enforced by
Registration Denial, the tear off postcard is no longer necessary.
If you no longer own this vehicle, there is no need to notify the
IEPA, simply disregard this notice.
- Please contact the Air Team at 800-635-2380 if you are not able
to test your vehicle for other reasons. Information on contacting
the Air Team is also easily available without unfolding the notice.
- The inside or back of the notice provides testing locations,
separated by the Chicago and Metro-East Area, and contains the
station address and hours of operation for each Full Service and
OBD Only facility.
- If you would like to set up an appointment to test your vehicle
at one of our new Appointment Only Testing Stations, please call
our Air Team Appointment Call Center toll free at 877-927-7587.
Have your license plate number and your vehicle identification
number available to schedule your test in advance. This information
is also found on the back of this test notice.
- Your complete vehicle information and the State of Illinois Holiday
Calendar, indicating the days testing stations are closed, is also
found on the back of the notice.
