Citizens' Information CenterGet InvolvedWhether you're a student, homeowner, business person, or live in an apartment, there are dozens of ways you can get involved with actions to improve the environment. To help you get started, we’ve provided links to just a few! Volunteer OpportunitiesPartners for Clean AirCitizens in the Chicago area can become Partners by responding to Ozone Action Day announcements and taking steps to reduce ozone air pollution. Information about this program, including ten tips to reduce ozone air pollution, are available at the Partners for Clean Air web site. Volunteer Lake MonitoringThis Illinois program is one of the oldest volunteer lake monitoring programs in the country. In the basic monitoring program, citizens are trained to measure water clarity of a lake in which they have an interest. EcoWatchThe Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR) offers many volunteer opportunities to help with projects within EcoWatch, such as RiverWatch, ForestWatch, PrairieWatch, and UrbanWatch. Watershed Information NetworkSearch a catalog of watershed groups involved in protecting local water bodies at this USEPA website. The Watershed Information Network also provides general information about watersheds and links to other resources. Submit “Green” IdeasSubmit your ideas for local environmentally beneficial projects to the Supplemental Environmental Project Idea Bank. EventsThis schedule of events includes public hearings, household hazardous waste collections, waste tire collections, workshops, conferences, and other events.
