Batavia Groundwater Contamination Study
Batavia, Illinois
In 1996, industrial solvents were found in water samples from several private
wells on the east bank of the Fox River south of the business district in Batavia,
Illinois. Illinois EPA has investigated and discovered two separate areas of
solvent contamination, apparently from different sources. Nearby private residential
wells have been tested repeatedly over several years and have shown no signs
of solvent contamination. Illinois EPA is continuing to study the area and will
monitor to insure residential wells do not become affected.
