| Community Concerns | Is the water safe to drink? Why is there coloration
and odors in the water sometimes? |
| Violation Notices Hopkins Park System | This community water supply has received numerous letters from IEPA identifying deficiencies in their required monitoring. When a problem is not corrected, a violation notice is issued. In 2004, the water system was issued a violation notice for failure to monitor for SOCs (synthetic organic compounds) (primarily pesticides) during 2003 and 2004. The required monitoring for SOCs is currently in compliance. IEPA notified Hopkins Park in 2006 that they had not completed the required sampling for nitrates and benzopyrene during 2005. The Agency will continue to work with the water supply officials and operator to bring the system into compliance with public water supply regulations. |
| Violation Notices Pembroke System | In 2005, the Pembroke system received a violation notice for failure to issue the required consumer confidence report on July 1, 2005. The required report was issued November 23, 2005. Although Pembroke has been previously cited for failure to sample and report in a timely manner, the system is in compliance with all applicable IEPA regulations as of the date of this fact sheet. |
