Southeast Rockford Groundwater Contamination Superfund Project
Rockford, Illinois

This site is located in Rockford (Winnebago County), Illinois. It was placed on the National Priorities List in 1989 because of private wells and at least one municipal well contaminated with chlorinated industrial solvents. Lead for the site has been split between the Illinois EPA and USEPA.

Work completed includes the connection of over 800 homes and businesses to the Rockford Public Water Supply, ongoing treatment of Public Well No. 35 and ongoing groundwater monitoring. The feasibility study and proposed plan for control of the four main sources of contamination are scheduled to be presented to the public for comment in late 2000 or early 2001.
