STAR Partners Honored At Sixth Pollution Prevention Conference

Participating firms reduce pollution in their own processes and share their experiences with others.

[Photo of STAR Partners Award Winners]Three companies were honored as STAR Partners by the Illinois EPA during the Sixth Annual Pollution Prevention Conference, held Oct. 2, 1995, at the Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria.

Recognized for outstanding contributions in pollution prevention were Chrysler Corp.'s Belvidere Assembly Plant, of Belvidere; Central Illinois Light Co. (CILCO), of Peoria; and Rhone Poulenc-Rorer/Armour Pharmaceutical Co., of Kankakee.

More than 170 people attended the conference. Breakout sessions allowed attendees to select among discussions focusing on activity-based costing, the Illinois EPA's internship program and how companies can use pollution prevention projects to avoid liability complications.

"This conference provides companies an excellent opportunity to learn from each other's experiences and to share what progress is being made in pollution prevention at the state level," said Illinois EPA Director Mary A. Gade.

STAR Partner Awards recognize firms that participate in the Agency's Partners in Pollution Prevention (PIPP) program, which requires organizations to reduce pollution in their own processes and to share their experiences with others.

"Each of these companies is a leader in pollution prevention in Illinois," said Mike Hayes, Illinois EPA Office of Pollution Prevention. "They help the Agency in presenting workshops and conferences, and assist our office in identifying regulatory obstacles to pollution prevention."

The 1995 conference was cosponsored by the Illlinois EPA and CILCO.
