Environmental Progress - Summer 1996"Clean Break" Featured at Annual Truckers MeetingThe innovative "Clean Break" amnesty program is now operational statewide. Representatives from the Illinois EPA's Office of Small Business were on hand to discuss the Agency's "Clean Break" program during the 33rd annual convention of the Midwest Truckers' Association in Springfield in February. Approximately 6,000 people attended the three day gathering at the Prairie Capital Convention Center. Joining more than 130 other exhibitors, Norma Van Valkenburg, Karen Buckley and and Don Squires of the Office of Small Business answered questions and displayed a video to provide basic information about the Clean Break program. During formal convention sessions, Small Business Office Manager John Kelley discussed ways in which the Illinois EPA can be of assistance to small business owners. Emphasis during both the formal and informal sessions was on compliance issues and eligibility requirements for aquiring amnesty under the Clean Break program. Now in the first phase of statewide operation, the program is working with autobody and motor vehicle repair and maintenance businesses, and with printers, letting them identify regulations that impact them, and determine if they are meeting all compliance requirements. Small business owners may choose to remain anonymous in early stages of Clean Break participation. |
