Environmental Progress - Summer 1996

New Managers for Public Information and Pollution Prevention

Dennis H. McMurray has been named manager of the Illinois EPA's Office of Public Information and Kevin P. Greene is the new manager of the Office of Pollution Prevention.

McMurray joined the Agency on July 1, 1996 and Greene on July 16, 1996.

dennis-mcmurray.jpg (35422 bytes)McMurray received his B.A. degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and an M.S. degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston.

Following graduation, McMurray worked as a reporter for the Alton Telegraph and later became chief of the newspaper's Edwardsville bureau. In 1978 he became chief of the Telegraph's Springfield bureau in the Statehouse, a post he held until May 1996. McMurray was the newspaper's editorial page editor prior to joining the Illinois EPA.

During his newspaper career, he earned professional awards from the Associated Press, Illinois Press Association and Press Association of Greater St. Louis. He resides in Springfield.

kevin-greene.jpg (15295 bytes)Greene has been professionally involved with environmental organizations for 25 years, the previous three as senior policy analyst for the Center for Neighborhood Technology where he focused on brownfields cleanup, recycling and economic development issues and authored a resource guide for community groups.

He previously was research director for 17 years for Citizens for a Better Environment, including work on pollution prevention, recycling, acid rain and research on utility and steel mill pollution control.

Greene was legislative liaison for five years for the Illinois Environmental Council, authoring several pieces of legislation, including the Toxics Pollution Prevention Act and the Solid Waste Planning and Recycling Act. He recently moved to Springfield.
