Environmental Progress - Winter 1996Agency Has New Great Lakes CoordinatorToby Frevert, a 26 year employee of the Illinois EPA, has been appointed new Great Lakes Coordinator in the Bureau of Water. The appointment became effective Oct. 1, 1996
Frevert joined the Illinois EPA in July 1970, the same month the Agency was created. He managed the water pollution planning section in the mid and late 1980s, overseeing development of the Agency's section 319 nonpoint source and Clean Lakes programs. He also headed team efforts before the Pollution Control Board to secure the first major water quality standards revisions to address toxic substances. In his new post as Great Lakes Coordinator, Frevert's first
major activity will be revision of water quality standards for
Lake Michigan and its tributaries to comply with the March 1995
Great Lakes Guidance issued by U.S. EPA. Additional priorities will include
continuation of the Waukegan Harbor restoration and protection
activities, and efforts with U.S. EPA and neighboring states to
advance nonpoint source reduction objectives through various
avenues including the Lake Michigan Lakewide Management Plan. |
