Environmental Progress - Winter 1996

"Our Environment Today" Puts Information About Agency Activities On Your TV Screen

From the deep tunnels of TARP to landfill methane reuse, the Illinois EPA shares its diverse activities with viewers of local access television systems.

From regulating auto vehicle emissions to collecting and reusing methane gas from landfills, the Illinois EPA's daily activities cover a lot of diverse areas. To help the public better understand what the Agency is and does, a monthly television show, "Our Environment Today" has been developed for local public access stations.

The program uses a documentary style to illustrate current environmental issues around the state, and topics on "Our Environment Today" are as varied as the Agency's day-to-day activities. The October 1996 program went 300 feet below ground to examine the Chicago area Tunnel and Reservoir Program (TARP), a massive program to capture excess storm water and prevent flooding in residential areas; December's program looked at the mining industry and the reclamation of strip-mined areas.

Local cable television listings show which public access channels in the state carry "Our Environment Today."
