Employees of the Month

Each month, the Illinois EPA recognizes outstanding employees for making quality part of every job they do. Below are three Agency Employees of the Month for the most recent quarter. Congratulations to all of them for a quality job well done!

Heather Nifong (7254 bytes) Heather Nifong, Office of Community Relations, Associate Director's office, was the June Employee of the Month. She was recognized for her ability to clearly communicate, both within and outside the Agency, information about such complex enforcement issues as the Tiered Approach to Corrective Action (TACO) rules. Her skill in explaining programs in a manner understandable to people unfamiliar with Agency programs, as well as her training work with interns, also contributed to her recognition.
Bob Hite (6178 bytes) Bob Hite, in the Bureau of Water's Field Operations Section, Marion regional office, was selected Employee of the Month for July. In addition to supervising the Marion office's stream, lake and watershed programs, and updating the Methods Manual, he also leads intensive stream surveys. Bob co-chaired the Biological Stream Characterization Work Group, a multi-Agency effort for biological assessment of Illinois stream quality, which produced an Illinois EPA report widely used both within and outside Illinois.
Brenda Hillen (6598 bytes) Brenda Hillen, who works in the Division of Laboratories' Springfield organic lab, was selected as the August Employee of the Month. She helped solve an extraction problem in Method 525 drinking water analysis, reducing required resamplings to less than 5 percent. This resulted in substantial savings in time and materials as well as the cost of a second mailing to operators. Subsequently, she aided in incorporating polychlorinated biphenyls analysis into the Method 525 procedure, realizing significant financial savings while freeing up two laboratory analysts for other duties.
