Environmental Progress - Fall 1997LEAP Jumping In With Funding HelpFunding up to $500 for water-related educational activities is being offered by the Illinois EPA under the Lake Education Assistance Program (LEAP). Schools and other non-profit organizations can apply for financial help for group or individual attendance at field trips, seminars, workshops or other events related to inland lakes or lake watersheds. Acceptable projects can enhance lake and watershed awareness of teachers, students, organizations or the community. Funding will be provided as reimbursement of costs for a variety of expenditures including materials and equipment, substitute teacher payment, buses and drivers, software and visual materials. At the completion of the project, a one page final report will be required, including information on the level of participant involvement, supported by videos, photographs, art work, and/or written work. The next application deadline is Jan. 31, 1998. Only one application will be accepted for each school, organization or community. Reimbursement requests must be submitted to the Illinois EPA by June 30, 1998; those submitted later will not be accepted and will become the responsibility of the purchaser. Applications are available on the Agency Web page at www.epa.state.il.us or can be obtained by calling Steve Kolsto, Illinois EPA, 217-782-3360. |
