Environmental Progress - Spring 1998"The Swamp" Exhibit Earns Award for ZooA cypress swamp was created at Chicagos Brookfield Zoo with financial help from Illinois EPA. "The Swamp," a mixed-species exhibit opened at Chicagos Brookfield Zoo in March 1996, has earned a Significant Achievement Award in the exhibit category from the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA). The exhibit was created using Clean Water Act section 319 funding provided through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. "The Swamp" recreates a southern cypress swamp and an Illinois river scene, demonstrating the benefits of wetland systems, and informing visitors about how they can protect vulnerable wetland areas. The AZA represents 180 North American zoos and aquariums, and accredits conservation, educational, scientific and recreational excellence demonstrated by its members. Related pages:
