Environmental Progress - Fall 1998BOL Staff Provide Illinois EPA Presence at Waste Expo '98Five staffers from the Bureau of Land represented the Illinois EPA in early June during the three day Waste Expo '98 in Chicago. One of the top 200 trade shows in the United States, Waste Expo is the largest trade show in North America for the waste industry. This year's event, held June 9-11, attracted 560 exhibitors with displays spreading over 230,000 square feet of McCormick Place South. Representatives from more than 75 countries attended to explore the latest in technology, products and services for handling solid, hazardous and medical wastes. Waste Expo is an industry-wide information exchange and exposition dedicated to the waste industry. It is held annually and provides an opportunity for dialogues between public officials and private companies, manufacturers and purchasers of equipment and services, recyclers and waste processors and others providing products and services involved in proper disposal of waste. The Illinois EPA has participated at intervals since 1989. During Waste Expo '98, the Illinois EPA provided visitors with information on landfill siting requirements, capacity, and state regulatory requirements, as well as an opportunity to spin the "Wheel of Waste" for a chance to win a prize. |
