Environmental Progress - Winter 1999Book Lists Ways Farmers Can Protect WaterProtecting surface water is the focus of a new book recently released by the University of Illinois Extension Service. A companion volume to the earlier 50 Ways Farmers Can Protect Groundwater, the new book is titled 60 Ways Farmers Can Protect Surface Water. It introduces innovative farming practices that protect the environment and help cut production costs without sacrificing production. Many of the suggestions are introduced through profiles of actual Midwestern farmers who are using the concepts. Part of the award-winning "This Land" series, the 317 page book was made possible by funding from the Illinois EPA under Section 319 of the Clean Water Act.
