Environmental Progress - Winter 1999New Video Series Looks at Zebra Mussels in Great LakesFour videos look at biology, impacts, spread and control of aquatic invaders Four videos offering a comprehensive look at zebra mussels are now available from the Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant College Program. Focusing on basic biology of the mussels; their ecological, social and economic impacts; spread prevention and control techniques; and outreach tools, the videos can be used independently or as a set. Since their introduction to North American waters a few years ago, zebra mussels have infested major water resources and impacted sport fishing, navigation, recreation, beach use, irrigation, industrial use and municipal drinking water supplies. They have spread rapidly to all five of the Great Lakes and invaded a number of major rivers in the eastern U.S. as well as inland lakes in several states. Each segment was written by and features experts in the zebra mussel field. The series, Zebra Mussels: Lessons Learned in the Great Lakes Region, can be ordered from University of Illinois, Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant Publications, Attn.: Cyndi Moore, 1917 S. Wright St., Champaign IL 61820 or by calling 1-800-345-6087. Videos are priced at $7.50 each or $20 for the set of four, plus $3 for shipping
costs. They can be previewed and ordered on the Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant's
