Regional Office Moves to DesPlaines
Regional
Office Moves to DesPlaines The Illinois EPA's regional office serving Chicago
and the nine "collar counties" moved on Sept. 21-23 from leased quarters
in Maywood to a newly renovated state facility in DesPlaines. The Suburban
North Regional Office Facility, managed by the Illinois Dept. of Central
Management Services, was originally Maine North High School in DesPlaines.
Some visitors to the DesPlaines regional office facility may have a vague
sense of "déjà vu" when approaching the building, since it
was the shooting site for the movie "The Breakfast Club" before being acquired
by the state. The office building is located at 9511 W. Harrison St., DesPlaines.
The IEPA's main phone line there is 847-294-4000. The Agency's new location
will save money on rent costs and allow expansion room if necessary to offer
field staff services for all major IEPA operations except drinking water
operations. Drinking water field staff operate out of the Elgin regional
office. Several other state agencies also have operations in the Suburban
North facility.
