Environmental Progress - Summer 2001Agency Moving Ahead With ACES DevelopmentGoal is more efficient exchange of information within and outside Agency. The IEPA is moving forward in developing a new information-exchange program that will give Agency staff greater access, in a more efficient fashion, to environmental information through an integrated database. A grant from U.S. EPA is funding the early development of the Agency Compliance and Enforcement System (ACES), which will combine information from the three major Bureau programs (air, land and water) and information from the Agency's legal division. When implemented, the program will let Agency staff access environmental information at a given facility including information on the facility's permits, compliance and enforcement history, and other facility specific information. "I am very excited about the potential ACES brings to improving Agency operations and allowing each of us to become more efficient in our jobs," said Director Tom Skinner. "ACES will give our staff immediate access to information that had been previously maintained by separate groups within the Agency. This system will also help us be more responsive to the many different groups our agency does business with," he added. |
