Launched in the summer of 2001, the Illinois Green Fleets Program to date has given the designation of "Green Fleet" to 17 vehicle fleets around the state. The program, consisting of businesses, government units, and organization, is a voluntary program offering recognition to entities having clean, alternative fuel vehicles in their fleet. To be designated, a fleet must have a portion of its vehicles using a clean, alternative fuel. The fleets designated most recently include Hollum Heating, Inc. (Chicago), Illinois Corn Growers Association (Bloomington), Illinois Power (Decatur), Schwan's (statewide), and Springfield Mass Transit District (Springfield). Information about Illinois Green Fleets can be found at the program's website www.illinoisgreenfleets.org. Illinois Green Fleets also launched a quarterly newsletter in December 2001. Additional information can be obtained by calling the Illinois EPA at 217-557-1441. |
