Honored
Works focused on Clean Water
Fifty fifth and sixth grade writers and artists
from
around Illinois were recognized at an honors reception
at the Hilton Springfield on April 26, wrapping up the
Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s 16th annual
poster/prose competition.
Six youngsters received $50 U.S. savings bonds, ribbons
and certificates, educational books about water, and a
special video for their school libraries, for submitting winning
posters or written works on the importance of “Clean
Water Everywhere for Everyone.” Another 44 finalists
received rosettes and certificates.
In all, 21,800 Illinois pupils participated
in the“
Environmental Pathways” curriculum made available in
their classrooms by the IEPA.
Top entrants in the poster category were Anne
Harris, of Evergreen Park, Madison Plesko, of Mackinaw, and
Amanda Tugade, of Franklin Park.
In the poetry/prose category, top places
went to Erika Brown of Keithsburg, Ian Porter of Chicago, and Katie
Walsh, also of Chicago.
The top six works and 44 entries chosen as finalists
were on
display
through
May in
the
atrium
entrance
of the
IEPA’s
Springfield
headquarters.
