Environmental Progress - Winter 2005Employees of the MonthEditor's Note: Each month the Illinois EPA recognizes outstanding employees for making quality part of every job they do. Three recent honorees are listed below.
Roman has conducted reviews of all dry cleaning inspection reports and auto body shop inspection checklists submitted by the Cook County Department of Environmental Control, in addition to managing the workload in his assigned district of DuPage County — one of the largest districts in Region 1. He has personally reviewed over 2600 dry cleaning reports and auto refinishing operation facility inspection checklists since the beginning of the project in 2000. He established an enforcement procedure and mailed out over 350 enforcement letters, thus bringing non-compliant facilities into compliance with applicable regulations. In addition, he took the necessary steps to follow up on enforcement actions by making calls to sources, providing small business assistance hotline numbers and, if necessary, conducting onsite inspections to enable the businesses to come into compliance. His communication skills are exceptional which makes him especially adept at answering questions from owners of dry cleaning and auto body shop facilities, providing clarification and guidance on the rules, regulations and requirements. Roman voluntarily became knowledgeable in the area of hospital/medical/infectious waste incinerators, and inspected and evaluated compliance of many sources throughout the region. |
