Earth Day... Every Day Ideas
Educator Ideas
- Start a recycling program in your school. (For more information visit
the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Recycling
and Waste Reduction website.)
- Have your class wear green on Earth Day. Have a special activity
or prize if everyone participates.
- Have your class plant a tree.
- For one week have the students put their paper in a box to show them
how much waste we do have and why there is a great need to recycle instead
of continuing to use the Earth’s resources.
- Have the class do an Earth Day bulletin board, or have a contest
between classes to see which class creates the best Earth Day bulletin
board.
- Give out certificates of recognition for students who pick up litter
out of the schoolyard or who do other activities that help the environment.
Ask local restaurants to donate coupons for students who receive the
certificates.
- Begin an environmental club in your school. Let students find ways
to get other students involved in recycling.
- Invite someone to speak to your class about recycling or some other
topic relating to environmental concerns.
- Let students make posters pertaining to some aspect of improving
the environment and display them in the halls during Earth Week.
- Remember that a sheet of paper has two sides. Create a bin for paper
that has only been used on one side. Use the paper when making copies.
If you use both sides before recycling, you will save money and trees.
