Pharmaceutical Water Sampling
This page contains links to a report by the IEPA, in collaboration with the
Illinois Department of Public Health, on a pilot study that included sampling
of drinking water supplies for the presence of chemicals found in many common
pharmaceutical and personal care products. The initial sampling and analysis
included Chicago, Elgin, Aurora, Rock Island and East St.Louis. A companion
document contains detailed sampling results for each location. While
the pilot study found the levels of the chemicals pose no known health risk
at this time, it concluded that further analysis was needed along with efforts
to potentially reduce the quantities of these chemicals getting into rivers
and lakes.
