News Releases - 1996Funds Available for Lake Education Activities
Springfield, Ill. -- Applications are now being accepted by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for funding to promote lake and watershed education. Separate programs have been set up for teachers and students, and for not-for-profit organizations, as part of a new education component of the Illinois Lake Management Program Act. Funding will be provided under Conservation 2000, the environmental protection program signed into law by Gov. Jim Edgar in 1995. The teacher/youth program will offer funding up to $200 to help defray costs of lake and watershed-related field trips and other activities. Funds can also be used to underwrite attendance by teachers at environmental-education related seminars and workshops. The organizational funding program provides up to $500 to promote education of organizations and citizens. Both programs will require a final report showing the scope of the program and the level of involvement, with supporting documentation such as videos, photographs, artwork, and written work, or combinations of these. Funding for both programs will be as reimbursement for documented expenses such as materials, equipment, substitute teacher payments, buses and drivers, seminars, workshops and visual materials. Applications will be accepted in two time periods, one ending Sept. 31, 1996, and the other Jan. 3, 1997. All work funded in either period must be completed by June 30, 1997. Additional information can be obtained from Steve Kolsto, in the Illinois EPA's Bureau of Water at 217-782-3362. |
