News Releases - 1996Input on Watershed Management Sought at Edwardsville Workshop
Springfield, Ill. -- A workshop on watershed management planning will be held by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 1996, at the Environmental Resources Training Center at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.The session will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a one hour lunch break. The workshop is the second in a series to obtain input from interested citizens about elements to be included in developing state watershed guidelines and identifying components of watershed implemention plans that will meet requirements of the federal Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act. Watershed protection plans should include consideration of such environmental concerns as public health (including drinking water), critical habitats, biological integrity, and ground and surface water protection. Following brief overviews of the watershed management program, participants will separate into breakout groups to focus specifically on:
The session will conclude with a discussion of two or three recommendations from each breakout group, and a determination of what the next steps should be in developing watershed management programs.
