Aurora, Ill. -- The Steiner Company, Inc., of
Aurora, will be recognized on Thursday, July 17, by the Illinois
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its role in a recent
EPA pilot training program. Steiner, a manufacturer of powder
coated steel lockers and continuous towel cabinets, opened its
doors to 100 Illinois EPA employees over three weeks of training.
Peter L. Wise, Illinois EPA Associate Director, will present a
plaque to Steiner President Guy Marchesi and certificates of
appreciation to three of Steiner's employees: Douglas Neidigh,
Brad Lirot and A.J. Voth. The presentation will take place at 2
p.m. at Steiner's Aurora plant, 1266 South Orchard Road.
The training project marks a shift in Agency operational
procedures that will merge environmental protection with the
principles of Total Quality Management, with the goal of enabling
Agency staff to work in partnership with companies to achieve and
exceed compliance with environmental regulations by emphasizing
pollution prevention techniques.
The training, conducted in three, three-day sessions this past
May, was provided primarily for field office staff from the
Maywood regional office. During the first two days of training,
Agency staff compared environmental regulations and progress
since 1970 with the concept of companies "going beyond
compliance" to continue environmental improvement. Then they
learned pollution prevention techniques that can achieve
beyond-compliance goals and effective methods to deliver that
kind of non-regulatory information to companies.
On the final day of training, staff members visited the
Steiner Company's WESCO Manufacturing Division plant in Aurora to
apply their training to an actual manufacturing site by
recognizing current pollution prevention activities and
identifying pollution prevention options not currently being
implemented.
