Springfield, Ill. -- The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has
recently allocated a total of $125,000 among five inland lakes projects through the
Priority Lake and Watershed Implementation Program. The projects, and the amounts they
will receive, include shoreline erosion control efforts at Charleston Side Channel
Reservoir (Coles County) $30,000, Lake Taylorville (Christian County) $15,000, Olney East
Fork Lake (Richland County) $30,000, and Little Bear Lake (Lake County) $25,000; and
installation of a lake aeration system at Lake Lou Yaeger (Montgomery County) $25,000.
Priority Lake and Watershed Implementation Program grants support lake
protection and restoration activities at priority lakes where the causes and sources of
impairment are apparent, sites are easily accessible, project size is relatively small,
and local management entities are in place to implement the selected treatments. Priority
lakes generally have multiple uses such as recreation and public water supply, or are high
quality unique resources.
Funding for the program, to be conducted on an annual basis, is made
available under the Conservation 2000-Illinois Clean Lakes Program.
