Springfield, Ill. -- The Illinois Environmental
Protection Agency is reminding consumers served by the Sorento water supply that
a "do not drink" order is still in effect for their water.
Repairs have been made to the filter at the water supply. A boil order
was issued on Aug. 4 for the Bond County community because of concerns
with the safety of the water. Mandatory follow-up testing, required after
such repairs, is currently being done, but until all necessary samples
successfully pass laboratory tests, the water should not be used for
drinking or cooking.
Bottled water will continue to be available as long as the "do not
drink" order remains in effect. Once initial sampling is completed, a
boil order may be reinstated for a few days, while follow up confirmatory
testing is done.
The Illinois EPA has been working with the Office of the Attorney
General and village officials to resolve the community's problems with its
local water supply. The local school is using only bottled water, and
providing waterless cleaners for hand washing. The school's food service
provider, and both of the village's restaurants have been contacted by the
Bond County Health Department about necessary precautions to ensure
safety. |
