News Releases - 2000Illinois EPA Hearing On Water Programs August 16, 2000
Springfield, Ill. -- Three Illinois EPA water programs will be discussed during the Bureau of Water's annual public hearing on Aug. 16. Specifically, public review and comment is being sought on the revolving loan programs for wastewater and drinking water operations, the state's water quality management plan for the coming year, and current program activities related to the triennial review. The annual hearing will open at 10 a.m. in the Training Room at the Agency's Springfield headquarters at 1021 North Grand Avenue East. For those unable to attend, written comments postmarked by midnight, Sept. 15, 2000, will be accepted by Hearing Officer Bobbi Glatz. Written comments do not need to be notarized and can be sent to Glatz at the Illinois EPA, 1021 North Grand Avenue East, PO Box 19276, Springfield IL 62794-9276. To meet provisions of the federal Clean Water Act, the Agency must prepare an intended use plan in order to receive U.S. EPA funding to capitalize the Water Revolving Loan Fund. Public comment will be accepted on the method for prioritizing projects and identifying the highest priority projects which have first opportunity to receive low interest loans for needed water and wastewater improvement projects. The Water Quality Management Plan identifies the state's goals and objectives relative to water quality protection, and is updated annually. The draft update is available for review prior to the public hearing at www.epa.state.il.us/public-notices. Triennial reviews are required under the Clean Water Act that says states must periodically hold public hearings to review applicable water quality standards which may require updating, supplementing or other modifications.
