Springfield, Ill. -- Washington Park Water Festival will be held September 15, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the historic park on Springfield's southwest side. The Festival is being held in conjunction with an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency streambank stabilization project taking place at the century-old park. The stabilization project is being undertaken to halt erosion into the park's lagoon. The project is being funded by federal funding under Section 319 of the Clean Water Act.

The event is open to the public, which is invited to attend and learn about water issues facing the area, see what's going on in Washington Park to improve water quality, and find out what local residents can do to help, as well as enjoy ing activities, goodies, and refreshments.

The event will offer attendees a turn-of-the-season opportunity to enjoy a last outdoor summer event while acquiring general environmental information and enjoying Washington Park's extensive attractions.
