News Releases - 2002Final Week For Chicago Area Residents To Enter "Green Pays On Green Days"
Springfield, Ill. -- --- Residents of the Greater Chicagoland area have only one week remaining to "take the clean air pledge" and be eligible to win a new Honda gas and electric-hybrid car, in the "Green Pays on Green Days program," Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Director Renee Cipriano noted today. Green Pays on Green Days, sponsored by Illinois EPA and Partners for Clean Air, began on May 27 and will end on September 2. It rewards Chicago area residents for pledging to take "green actions". For each day that the air quality in the Chicago metro region is good or green, one individual is selected as a "Green Day" prize winner. In addition, three individuals will win an "Intermediate Prize" package and three will win a "Bonus Prize". The Chicago area has had 38 green days since the beginning of Green Pays on Green Days, and more are expected in the program's final week. The program will wrap up with one individual being selected as the Grand Prize winner of a 2002 Honda Insight, a super ultra-low emissions vehicle, donated by Grand Honda of Elmhurst. "It has been a goal of the program to inform the public how individual contributions and responsible actions can benefit the environment for generations to come," said Illinois EPA Director Renee Cipriano. "With nearly 38,000 pledges, Green Pays on Green Days has proven to be an exciting program that is educating area residents on the benefits of taking green actions and using environmentally friendly products," Director Cipriano added. In the final week of Green Pays on Green Days, one entry will be selected to win the final Intermediate Prize package consisting of a color television, home theatre system, and compact disc changer system, all of which are ENERGYSTAR® designated. Additionally, one individual will win a Black & Decker electric lawnmower as a bonus prize. Green Pays on Green Days is open to residents of Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will counties in Illinois. Citizens can continue to enter during the final week by completing tear-off cards available from Green Pays posters throughout the area. Additionally, participants can also register electronically on the Internet at www.NBC5.com. Further details on the Green Pays on Green Days program are available at www.cleantheair.org/greenpays. The program has been made possible through generous contributions by Chicago area businesses and organizations. Green Pays on Green Days Winners
