Springfield, Ill. -- The Illinois EPA and the U.S. EPA are hosting a Public Availability Session on Thursday, September 5, to give the citizens of the area an opportunity to meet with state and local officials to discuss the progress of the cleanup efforts on the Lockformer property in Lisle.

Two sessions will be held at Meadows Center, 5801 Westview Lane, Lisle. The first session will be held from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. and the second will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Those interested are welcome to attend either session. The sessions will be an open house format, without formal presentations. Citizens may attend at their convenience to talk with representatives from the various organizations, on a one-on-one basis.

This meeting will be of particular interest to those who work or live near the Lockformer site that may not have been concerned with the project in the past. The ongoing construction project will be explained, along with the safeguards being taken for area residents.

Also to be discussed will be $2 million in state funds for infrastructure assistance approved by Governor George H. Ryan, at the request of Illinois EPA Director Renee Cipriano, related to contamination of the private wells in DuPage County. Illinois EPA representatives will be available to take citizen suggestions on the use of these funds.

Also participating will be the Illinois Department of Public Health, Village of Lisle, the Illinois Attorney General's office, DuPage County Department of Health, DuPage County and U.S. Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

For additional information, please contact Stan Black, Illinois EPA at 217/785-1427 or Mike Joyce, U.S.EPA at 312/353-5546.
