Springfield, Ill. -- --- Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Director Renee Cipriano joined program sponsors and winners at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum to announce the Green Pays on Green Days Grand Prize winner of a 2002 Honda Insight, super ultra-low emission vehicle.

The Green Pays on Green Days program, sponsored by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and Partners for Clean Air, was an educational initiative targeting residents of the Greater Chicagoland area to improve air quality. The program, which ended on September 2nd, received more than 41,000 "clean air pledge" entries from Chicago area residents.

Mrs. Aimee Adjepong of Bolingbrook was announced to be the Grand Prize Winner of the 2002 Honda Insight, donated by Grand Honda of Elmhurst. Her pledge was randomly drawn from the total number of entries.

"This is all very exciting," said Mrs. Adjepong, when she was told her name had been selected. She has pledged to conserve energy at home.

Environmentally-friendly products were awarded to winning participants to encourage them to use the products in the future. Green Pays on Green Days awarded a Green Day prize package each day that the Chicago area air quality was ranked as "good" or "green". Bonus Prizes of electric lawn mowers donated by Black & Decker and Intermediate Prizes featuring ENERGYSTAR® designated appliances and electronics from Sears were awarded in June, July and August.

"The basis of the program was to educate individuals of the impact each citizen can have on air quality," said Director Cipriano. "In its first year, we feel the program was a great success."

The program was open to residents of Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kane, Will, Grundy, McHenry and Kendall counties in Illinois who pledged to take "green actions" such as carpooling, taking public transportation, conserving energy and limiting use of products that cause fumes.

Green Pays on Green Days was made possible by generous financial and product contributions from Illinois businesses and organizations.
