News Releases - 2003$2.5 Million Loan To Flossmoor For Sewer System Upgrade
Springfield, Ill. -- Illinois EPA Director Renee Cipriano today announced approval of a $2,577,633 low interest loan to the village of Flossmoor, in Cook County, to upgrade older portions of its sanitary sewer system. The upgrade work is expected to reduce basement backups in the southeast portion of the village, as well as improving the structural integrity of the sewer system. “It is a pleasure to announce this loan, that will help Flossmoor renovate a sewer system that is showing its age, and reduce the basement backups that have been causing problems for residents in part of the village,” Director Cipriano said. The loan is being made from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s revolving loan program that utilizes federal and state funding to provide loans for eligible waste water treatment projects at half the market interest rate. Interest paid on the 20- year loans is returned to the fund to support other low interest loans. Work is scheduled to begin this summer and be completed by April 2004. Director Cipriano noted that 80 percent of the funding for the loan program comes from the federal government and she has urged Illinois’ congressional delegation to give a top priority to obtain adequate federal funding to assist communities in upgrading this vital infrastructure for the benefit of their citizens and the environment. |
