Springfield, Ill. -- IEPA Director Renee Cipriano today announced approval of a $201,230 grant
to the Village of Barrington to reduce nonpoint source pollution and improve
water quality in the Flint Creek watershed. Funding comes from the U.S. EPA
section 319 financial assistance grant program, which is administered by the
Illinois EPA.
The grant will help stabilize 2,600 feet of eroding streambank
along an approximately 1,300-foot segment of Flint Creek located in Barrington,
Illinois. The project
shall arrest streambank erosion and reduce nonpoint source pollution through
the installation of environmentally sound practices while protecting or enhancing
habitat, ameliorating damage from peak flows, reducing velocity of peak flows,
and enhancing aesthetic qualities.
The design work on these practices is expected
to be complete by March1, 2004 with all construction work to be completed
by the grant's termination date
of July 31, 2005.
