Springfield, Ill. -- The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is conducting a "Keeping Schools Healthy and Safe" workshop for school maintenance staff in Winnebago and Boone counties on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

In cooperation with the Boone/Winnebago Regional Office of Education, an estimated 15 school custodians are expected to attend the workshop.

A new IEPA "Green Schools" video will be presented and topics will include indoor air quality, energy efficiency and conservation, water conservation, chemical usage and mold prevention.

"These workshops are an important part of the efforts of Governor Blagojevich and the IEPA to assist school personnel in providing a healthier and safer environment for children and staff," said IEPA Director Renee Cipriano.

The workshop is being presented by the Illinois EPA's Office of Pollution Prevention, which has also sponsored "Green Chemistry" workshops, and hazardous waste collections at schools around the state.
