News Releases - 2003Illinois EPA Extends Written Public Comment Period for Village of Wauconda Sewage Treatment Plant Permit Application
Springfield, Ill. -- Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Director Renee Cipriano announced today that the deadline for submitting written comments from the public on a permit sought by Wauconda to expand its sewage treatment plant has been extended from October 9 until October 31. “Because of the great interest expressed by members of the public and local officials in this permit application, we want to allow additional time for comments and suggestions,” Director Cipriano said. Wauconda is seeking a modification of its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit in order to expand the existing treatment plant design average flow discharge of 1.4 million gallons per day to 1.9 million gallons per day during Phase 1 and 2.4 million gallons per day in Phase 2. It is proposing the plant will continue to discharge into Fiddle Creek and the Village has indicated the need for expansion is based on projected growth in the community. A public hearing on a draft permit was held in Wauconda on September 9. Written comments may now be postmarked until midnight, October 31, 2003, to be entered into the record for consideration by Illinois EPA. Comments need not be notarized and should be mailed to:
