The Solutia W.G. Krummrich Plant located is located in Sauget. This facility
manufactures chemical intermediate products. The intern assigned to this
facility was given the task of updating compliance documentation to facilitate
suggestions for reducing the volume and/or toxicity of five waste streams.
Results:
Compliance documentation, referred to as a dossier report, was prepared
for five residue wastestreams. For each waste, the report included
both physical and chemical properties, a regulatory classification profile
of the waste, and recommendations on how to reduce or eliminate the
waste.
Recommendations made by the intern on three of the five wastes have the
potential to result in a collective savings of over $110,000. The other
proposed suggestions are being considered for a 2-year or less return-on-investment
payback.
