Energy Plus Associates is a multi-service facility energy management
company that provides a single source for energy-related improvement projects,
products, and services to industrial, commercial, and municipal customers.
Services they provide include: project management, selection and scheduling
of architectural, engineering, and construction contractors, financial
management and grant administration, energy auditing, systems commissioning,
energy systems modeling and design, utility analysis and others. Typical
areas considered for improvement include: lighting, motors, energy management
systems, HVAC, compressed air, and process steam.
Energy Plus Associates is a coordinator for the Edwardsville Regional
Energy Program and the Collinsville Regional Energy Program that are sponsored
in part by Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Bureau
of Energy and Recycling, and the U.S. Department of Energy Rebuild America
program. Tasks of the intern included engineering and specifications development
needed to implement energy saving retrofit projects for the City of Edwardsville.
These projects were the replacement of incandescent traffic signals with
LED lamps and the installation of a variable frequency drive (VFD) control
system at a sewer lift station. Building an energy model of the Fairview
Heights City Hall as required for the Collinsville Regional Energy Program.
The energy efficiency measures investigated at Fairview Heights included
a lighting upgrade, digital setback thermostat conversion, and demand
control of the circulation pumps on a heat pump water loop.
Result:
- Energy Efficiency Outreach. During work on the Edwardsville program,
the intern worked on residential energy efficiency education, promoting
compact fluorescent lights at the local market and developing a brochure
of energy saving tips.
- Edwardsville Regional Energy Program. Additional work with the Edwardsville
program yielded annual energy savings of $7,468 for traffic signal LED
retrofits, $842 using a lift station VFD device, and $986 for residential
lighting reductions.
- Collinsville Regional Energy Program. With the Collinsville Regional
Energy Program, the intern developed an energy model of the Fairview
Heights City Hall. The energy efficiency measures investigated suggest
an annual savings of $1517 for lighting retrofits, $1053 utilizing set-back
thermostats, and $1381 for demand control of the circulation pumps.
