The Tri-County Green Matters Program is an environmental recognition program that
was launched in 2002 for the counties of Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford in central
Illinois. The goal of the program is to encourage area facilities to consider
waste reduction, energy efficiency and resource conservation as a way of doing
business. The program is a voluntary initiative open to facilities in the commercial,
manufacturing and service sectors, as well as government and non-profit institutions. The
program currently has 75 members.
Results:
The intern student was co-sponsored by the Tazewell County Health Department in
Tremont and worked on several projects within the three county areas. These
included:
- Developed and presented a PowerPoint presentation to members of the program
at a quarterly luncheon meeting. The topic concentrated on lighting efficiency
opportunities.
- Recruited new members as well as re-enlisted old members to join the program.
- Conducted pollution prevention and energy efficiency audits at three facilities
that were members of the program. The three facilities included Boley Tool,
Illinois Central College and Alcast. The student made several recommendations
on ways to decrease waste and improve energy efficiency within the facilities.
