The City of Aurora is located in the western portion of the Chicago metropolitan
region, extending into four counties. Over 157,000 people reside
in the city. The Fox Valley Park District (FVPD) is the largest
park district in Illinois outside of Chicago, serving more than 200,000 people. Both
institutions are participating in the Clean Air Counts (CAC) Campaign.
The intern conducted researched on the availability of several green products. The
intern also evaluated the reuse of bio-solids, and assisted the FVPD in working
towards attainment of the CAC Silver Level.
Results:
The intern completed the following tasks:
- Recommended that the FVPD pilot the use of bio-solids on one of its athletic
fields for a one year period.
- Developed pamphlets and other outreach materials to help the FVPD publicize
measures citizens can take to reduce air pollution.
- Identified a line of green cleaners for use in facility operations, including
a local distributor of such products.
- Identified several low-VOC paint products for use in both interior and
exterior applications.
