Energy Education Council

Springfield, Illinois

Intern: Luan Daves
University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign

The Energy Education Council (EEC) is an educational non-profit organization that focuses on electrical safety, energy efficiency, renewable energy and power quality. The organization is composed of representatives from investor-owned utilities, electric cooperatives, electric municipalities, educators and others. EEC’s main office is located in Springfield and is affiliated with the University of Illinois Extension offices.

The intern was tasked with developing a central repository of information on energy efficiency and renewable energy to help create content for an energy portal on the EEC web site.

Results:

The intern performed the following tasks:

  • Created a comprehensive database of energy efficiency topics that focused on residential customers and renewable energy programs. The database included information on energy tax credits, rebates, grants, loans and technical assistance programs. The financial assistance resources included both state and federal programs, along with utility assistance programs.
  • Contacted educational institutions to collect information on their energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Prepared articles on four university and college projects.
  • Submitted the articles and website links to the EEC web developer for incorporation into an energy website portal entitled Energy Efficiency Resource Center. The website link can be found at www.energyedcouncil.org

The new online Energy Efficiency Resource Center highlights important efficiency programming for Illinois and the nation, and contains information for residential and business electricity consumers who are interested in reducing their carbon footprint and their bottom line.

From regional public and private to state and national programs, the resources range from informational to technical, to financial assistance through incentive, grant and loan programs. Information is available within residential, business and Not-For-Profit/government sections.
