W.A. Whitney manufactures a comprehensive line of cutting and forming equipment
for the metal finishing market. The company serves the transportation, agriculture
and construction equipment industries. Operating since 1907, the Rockford plant
includes 150,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space.
The intern student worked on several energy-efficiency projects.
Results:
The intern recommendations included:
- Install occupancy sensors in
bathrooms and lunchrooms. This project could save the facility over $4,700
a year.
- Replace all T12 fixtures with T8 fixtures and electronic ballasts
and replace all of the HID fixtures with T5 fixtures. These two projects
could save over $15,000 a year. ComEd incentive funds for energy efficiency
would be available for these projects.
- Repair identified leaks in the compressed
air system. This project could save the company over $4,800 a year.
- Replace
the conventional forced-air gas heaters with new infrared heaters. This project
could result in savings of over $37,000 a year.
