MegaFab manufactures a comprehensive line of cutting and forming equipment
for the metal plate fabrication market. The manufacturing facility is located
in Rockford, Illinois. MegaFab is a comprised of three divisions that plasma-punch
combination machines, manual and CNC punching machines, and tooling systems.
The intern's main project was to identify energy efficient options for heating
the facility.
Results:
The intern compared two different energy efficient heating options and made
the following recommendations:
- Install a radiant heating system. The capital
investment of this option is relatively high compared to the alternative,
but the facility could save over $22,500 annually.
- The alternative is to install
direct fired air make up units. The capital investment required is lower
for this option and the facility could save $9,000 annually.
The intern also recommended
that the facility install Vending Misers on the vending machines. This could
produce a savings of over $460 per year.
Together, the recommended projects
have the potential to save the company $22,000 per year and reduce CO2 emission
by over 143 tons.
