Invensys is a global technology group providing software, solutions,
products, and service to control, optimize, and automate equipment and
processes in a broad range of industries and environments in the arena
of energy efficiency. From oil refineries to power stations, to
residential and commercial appliances, Invensys helps their customers
optimize their processes and improve their performance. Invensys has
three divisions and employ over 20,000 people worldwide.
The intern student worked on three separate projects while at Invensys.
Results:
The intern was able to:
- Develop a programmable thermostat temperature setback spreadsheet
model that allows a facility manager to calculate energy savings
based on modified plant thermostats and site-specific weather variations.
The model leverages existing 5-year local weather data and allowed for
energy calculations to be determined each month based on weather
variations relative to the 5-year trends.
- Model potential energy savings for advanced HVAC control scenarios
to highlight the functionality of Invensys' innovative HVAC controllers.
The potential savings from certain control scenarios were compared to
benchmark data contained in US DOE's EnergyPlus modeling and simulation
software.
- Develop an energy savings tool and best practices guide to assist
facility managers when using the US DOE Airmaster+ tool for compressed
air. The guided contained a simple questionnaire with links to
recommendations for improvements to existing practices and potential
energy savings.
