The UTC Aerospace System's plant in Rockford manufactures electrical actuation
and power controls and sensing systems for the aerospace industry. This plant,
which employs approximately 2,200 employees, was formerly operated under the name
of Hamilton Sundstrand.
The intern worked on several projects in the Facilities Engineering & Services
and the Environmental Health & Safety departments. These projects are detailed
below.
Results:
The intern completed the following tasks:
- Assisted in multiple aspects of an energy efficiency project to use third party
financing. This included communication of documents, building envelope audit,
building management system evaluation, chiller consolidation project, and a
complete five day lighting audit.
- Created a reflected ceiling plan for lighting. The intern color coded for
the type of light in the area, with more detail for labs including individual
fixture placement with a universal code throughout the document. Hyperlinks
were added to the original drawings for more detailed information.
- Assessed the impact of cooling degree on water usage at the plant.
- Created a one line diagram of the emergency power panels in the plant.
