P2 at School

  • Have students compile a list of items in their homes that are considered hazardous or that create hazardous waste when produced and/or disposed.

  • Recycle paper, aluminum and card board.

  • Have students conduct an energy audit, waste audit or water use audit at the school.

  • Start a butterfly, bird or native landscaping garden to the school can reduce the amount of areas that have to be mowed.

  • Install energy efficient lighting at the school. Turn off lights when needed.

  • Don't make extra copies. Find out how many are needed and then make copies. Make double-sided copies.

  • Use washable dishes in the cafeteria.

  • Separate food scraps and start a school compost pile.

  • Have students analyze ways your school can cut down on the amount of trash thrown away each day & make a list of all the possibilities.

  • In the lab use non-mercury containing thermometers. Don't keep an overage of chemicals in the lab.

  • Install motion sensitive control water faucets.
